MLB trade rumors: Yankees “leading the pack” for A’s Sonny Gray

The Yankees are "leading the pack" in regards to trade talks surrounding Athletics right-hander Sonny Gray according to Bob Klapisch of USA Today. However, in the same tweet, Klapisch notes that talks are “still a long way” from being completed.

Here’s the tweet from Klapsich:
This should certainly give Yankees fans some hope. Rumors surrounding Gray have been swirling for weeks now, and the idea of a trade has been a well-written about topic here at BBB. The addition of Gray would certainly give the Yankees a huge rotation boost that they desperately need. Luis Cessa and Caleb Smith have shown that, while possessing varying forms of potential, neither is the answer for the Yankees in their quest for a fifth starting pitcher.

Gray, 27, currently possesses a 3.43 ERA in 97 innings this season, with 94 strikeouts, a 1.18 WHIP, and a 2.13 ground out-to-fly out ratio. He’s also under control for two more seasons after this year. There is not another pitcher currently on the trade market who is more perfect for the Yankees.
