BBB Reacts: Yankees' disappointing end to the 2018 season

Well, it's been just about a week now since the Boston Red Sox eliminated the Yankees from playoff contention and we've all had some time to stew on it.  Obviously not the ending any of us wanted and made even more painful due to the fact that it was our arch-rivals who put the nail in the coffin. Some of our contributors weigh in below about how this season ended, what to make of it all, and where the Yankees go from here heading into 2019.

MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees interested in Manny Machado

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Yankees are interested in Orioles star third baseman Manny Machado. The Yankees are one of multiple teams interested in the infielder, and Cashman has the ammunition to make a move if he pleases. However, it would be interesting to see a star like Machado traded to a division rival, but stranger things have happened.

Machado is considered one of the best if not the best third baseman in baseball, but his real love is at shortstop and has requested to move there if traded. The 25-year-old has dealt with injuries over the years, recently coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro, but at his best, he is a Gold Glove favorite at shortstop or third base with 40 home run power.

If the Yankees can’t strike a deal with the Baltimore for Machado, he is a free agent after the season, and if one of the Baby Bombers cannot fill the third base hole, he could very likely come to the Bronx with a huge contract. An interesting note, if Manny does move back to shortstop, it could increase his value in the free agent market come 2019. The White Sox are also one of the teams interested in Machado, and Baltimore is looking for two controllable pitchers in a trade. We will have to see if the Yankees make another titanic move early on in the winter meetings.
