Sabathia came into his start just three strikeouts shy of the milestone.  In the second inning, Sabathia struck out the side the reach the milestone.  After getting David Peralta and Christian Walker to start the inning, Sabathia was able to record strikeout #3000 by getting John Ryan Murphy swinging.

Although the Yankees ultimately fell to the Diamondbacks 3-1 on Tuesday evening, the night will be forever remembered as the night Sabathia achieved his historic milestone.  A great moment followed his strikeout of Murphy, as Sabathia was greeted on field by every member of the Yankees - players, coaches and training staff - as he headed for the dugout.  Once Sabathia got to the dugout, he quickly grabbed his bat and helmet, as he was due to leadoff the following inning, and shared another cool moment with his wife and kids in the on-deck circle.
