BREAKING: Yankees land Montas, bolster their bullpen in pair of deals

In the leadup to an otherwise very boring trade deadline (so far), the speculation around Yankee land was where would the help come from. After seeing their top target Luis Castillo head to the Mariners for a steep price, the Yankees needed to shift. They have been in rumors for weeks about seeing help for their starting rotation as well as their bullpen. After weeks of nothing but rumors, the Yankees finally struck Tuesday, agreeing to a deal for Oakland A’s ace Frankie Montas. Also included in the deal is A’s reliever Lou Trivino. The return for Montas and Trivino is not insignificant, the Yankees sent back LHP JP Sears, INF Cooper Bowman, RHP Luis Medina and LHP Ken Waldichuk. Waldichuk would seem to be the headliner in the deal for the A’s, as he’s been a rising star and strikeout machine in the Yankees minor league system; Medina has flashed great potential and has decently high upside as well. The Yankees paying a price like this in a deadline deal represents a change from rece

BREAKING: Yankees to acquire OF Andrew Benintendi from Kansas City Royals

Yankees offense hitting its first rough patch of 2022

Image
Don’t look now, but the Yankees might be hitting their first real rough patch of the season.   While it’s hard to complain about a team with a 58-23 record at the midway point of the season, the Yankees have a crucial stretch of games coming up against the second-place Boston Red Sox, and the offensive has gone through a bit of a cold streak that hopefully doesn’t linger through those important games.

With Chapman's return and Holmes' dominance, what is the future of the ninth inning?

Image
Happy July! As the season nears its halfway point, the Yankees have exceeded even the highest of expectations at 56-21 and I for one am having fun. The Bombers were baseball’s best team in the month of June, cruising through just about everyone in their path en route to a 22-6 record. Even after a head-to-head loss last night, they stand seven games above the Houston Astros for the American League’s best record. Photo Credit: Peter Aiken, USA TODAY Sports Rolling into Cleveland to meet the Guardians for a weekend set, they’ll be joined by none other than Aroldis Chapman, who’s been sidelined with left Achilles tendonitis since May 24. Oh, how we missed him. When asked about the team’s plan for the ninth inning moving forward, Aaron Boone reiterated that Chapman is the closer. Clay Holmes will become the “fireman” – entering as necessary in the highest leverage spots against the toughest parts of the lineup.  Photo Credit: Getty Images It’s hard to find words to describe how good Holmes

Something special is happening in the Bronx in 2022

Image
Something special is happening in the Bronx this summer.   I know, I know, it’s only June 17.   We’re only 63 games into a 162-game marathon season. I know I’m not the guy you expected to hear any optimism out of.   But here we are, just under 39% of the way into a season I was sure was destined for a fourth-place finish, with the Yankees holders of the best record in Major League Baseball and the third-best 63 game start in franchise history. Photo Credit: Getty Images Yes, this team. The team that routinely rolls out lineups laden with the likes of Joey Gallo, Aaron Hicks, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Kyle Higashioka. The team that is currently down it’s top-four bullpen weapons from last season (Aroldis Chapman on the IL recovering from achilles tendonitis, Jonathan Loaisiga out with shoulder inflammation, Chad Green out for the year after undergoing Tommy John Surgery, Zack Britton on the mend from 2021 Tommy John Surgery).   But what’s special about this team is that anyone can ste

Player Update: The Novelty of Isiah Kiner-Falefa

Image
Photo credit: NJ.com Admit it: Isiah Kiner-Falefa wasn't your pick for starting shortstop for the Yankees while they were making their offseason moves. Trevor Story and Carlos Correa were on the market.  You watched in agony as each of them came off the board in the free agency fever dream after the MLB lockout.  And the Yankees, in Hal-Cashman era fashion, end up with IKF (who was originally traded to the Twins but was literally freed up so that they can go get Correa… AGONY, right?).  And then you realize that you were in for a surprise. While IKF got off to a rough start in Pinstripes, he has more than righted the ship in recent weeks.   According to the New York Post ’s Joel Sherman, IKF “initially struggled on both sides of the ball -- a few bobbles mixed with a 6-for-28, seven-strikeout first 10 games.”  But, as of May 5th, he is hitting .311 (23-for-74), with 15 runs, seven RBIs and five walks.  And unlike a parade of his teammates, he’s done all of that without hitting a si

Yankees stay hot, take 2 of 3 from Blue Jays

The Yankees remained hot against the second-best team in the AL East this week, extending their winning streak to 11 before dropping the final game of the series last night. Coming into the off day, the Yankees are tied for the most wins in the MLB with the Mets and hold the best record in the league courtesy of the Mets’ two extra losses. Photo Credit: AP Photo

BBBets 4/28

Image
Welcome back to the first BBBets in two weeks! I took a nice long break following a very rough 0-5 day of picks, the worst of which being a Braves moneyline bet in a game in which they ended up losing to the Padres 12-1. Before that day I was 7-2 in bets given out for a net positive of +3.59 units. After that day I am looking at 7-7 in bets that I’ve given out for a net negative of -1.31 units. One bad day ruins quite the promising start to the season. While I am slightly positive in all of my MLB bets this season (including the bets I hadn’t given out), I want to get my record back on track and move my net losses back into the net gains on my BBBets picks. With that said, let’s get to the bets.

Weekly Preview: CLE vs. NYY 4/22-4/24, BAL vs. NYY 4/26-4/28

Bronx Bomber Bets 4/14/22

Image
Hello everybody and welcome again to BBBets, your favorite place to come inconsistently for gambling picks that, so far this season, are doing really well if I do say so myself. As things stand, in the two days that I have given out picks, I have gone 4-1 (Opening Day Friday) followed by a solid 3-1 showing (Monday) for a total of +3.59 units if you are betting one unit on every pick. We’re looking to continue this nice streak today, and I have 5 bets that I really like today. GOOD MORNING!! We have some bets for you today as @nicksims14 tries to stay hot on the season🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/ByQZTUxlVt — Bronx Bomber Ball (@BronxBomberBall) April 14, 2022 Let's start with the 1:10 game on the  bet slip, Rays vs. A's. In this game, I like the  Rays -1.5 (-110). The Athletics won the matchup between these two teams yesterday 4-2 in a matchup between Frankie Montas and Shane McClanahan, and I like the Rays to take the game today by at least a couple runs. Next we have Cardinals

Bronx Bomber Bets 4/12/22

Image
Hello and welcome again to Bronx Bomber Bets! This will be our second BBBets of the season, with the first being last Friday where I started 4-1. I didn’t give out any bets this weekend, but had an overall pretty solid weekend, and then saved myself yesterday by not giving out any picks (I had the graphic made and had began a blog) on a day where I ended up going 1-3. I’m gearing up to end that cold streak at one day today, and I have 4 bets that I think will return my hands to their heat from this weekend. It’s just picks from me again today, but hopefully later this season we start getting bets from our other two resident degenerates at BBB, Andrew and Luigi.

First (And Maybe Last) Bronx Bomber Bets of the Season

Hello all and welcome back to your favorite yearly tradition that slowly disappears by mid June! Hopefully that is not the case this season, and the best bettors in the world to fade just become the best bettors in the world period.

Top 10: Keys to early season success for the Yankees

Image
We've finally arrived. Opening Day is upon us.  It's coming a week later than expected. The team doesn't look the way we expected them to when the offseason began six long months ago.  But here we are.  The Yankees chose not to make any of the marquee acquisitions Twitter lost their mind over all Winter, but at the end of the day they plugged some holes, and bring a much more versatile and athletic club into the 2022 season.  Did they do enough to dethrone the likes of Boston or Tampa or keep the quickly ascending Toronto Blue Jays at bay? Only time will tell.  In "The Late Show with David Letterman" fashion, here are our Top 10 factors to the Yankees getting off to a fast start.
